October's Monthly Mission
Hello boutique family! Happy October to you all! What a beautiful month October is! One of my favorite months of the year. I love the bold fall colors, the apple, pumpkin and cinnamon scents and tastes and Halloween! October brings us closer to the holiday season and it is such a wonderful time for children to be excited about. I think Kate, my youngest, has changed her Halloween costume idea 45 times already! We are very blessed to be able to go Halloween costume shopping together and I am so grateful to make homemade fall-smelling after school snacks for my girls.
Months like these are a little bittersweet too. I was a public school teacher and I know that not every child experiences these same fall memories or holidays the same. And after the phone calls I have had with the staff at the Dakota Children's Advocacy Center the number of children in our community who lack proper housing or safe home lives is alarming!
I saw a cry for help from the Dakota Children's Advocacy Center a month ago when they were asking for fleece tie blankets, something they give to each and every child who walk through their doors. When I called to have them update me on their most immediate needs I found out that their blankets had been fully restocked and they are now in need of drinks and peanut free snack items for the kids more than anything.
The Dakota Children's Advocacy Center is a community-based, child-focused organization that works alongside a multidisciplinary team to coordinate the community’s response to incidents of child sexual abuse with the goal of promoting healing and justice for victims and their families.
This Organization has provided it's services to every single county in the state of North Dakota, as well as, some parts of South Dakota and Montana.
When I was talking to the girls about this mission I was sharing with them that this type of abuse can happen to people we know but we don't actually know about it and how important to always be a safe person their friends can talk to, but also to always help organizations like this because you never know when a place like this might end up helping someone you love.
We are very blessed that in the month of October, a portion of every order placed through Yellow Stitch Boutique will be used to purchase snacks and drinks for the Children's Advocacy Center. Our local customers who choose to pick up their order will also be given the opportunity to donate a peanut-free snack item, a case of water, or a package of juice boxes and if they choose to leave a donation when they pick up their order, they will receive a discount code to use on their next order!
We want to help stock the shelves of this amazing safe haven for children so when they are coming from scary or unsafe situations they will be coming to a safe shelter that can provide for all of their basic needs.
We feel grateful that God is using us this month to help this organization and these children and families!
